News & Media News Kick It Out duo Lord Ouseley and Tajean Hutton named on 2018 Football Black List The 2018 Football Black List has been announced with Lord Herman Ouseley, Kick It Out’s Chair, and Tajean Hutton, the organisation’s new Grassroots Manager, both featuring this year. The Football Black List, founded in 2008 by sports journalists Leon Mann and Rodney Hinds, highlights positive influencers from the black community in the sport. A panel of experts from the community and football industry looked at a long list of nominations before deciding who made the final list. The panel included representation from the Premier League, The Football Association, Professional Footballers’ Association, League Managers Association, English Football League, Fare Network and Kick It Out. With Kick It Out moving into its 25-year anniversary season, Lord Ouseley has been recognised in the Administration category for his role tackling discrimination in football, whilst Tajean is included in the Practitioner category for his work as President of grassroots club AFC Wembley. Lord Ouseley was pleased to be named once again on this year’s Football Black List: “I’m grateful to be included amongst so many fantastic people from the black community doing incredible work across football. “When I launched Let’s Kick Racism Out of Football almost a quarter of a century ago, there was very little recognition for the contribution black people have made and continue to make in the game, so I’m delighted to see the Football Black List going from strength-to-strength and celebrating its 10th anniversary this year.” The Voice Newspaper, who have a media partnership with Kick It Out for its 25th anniversary season, is the home of the Football Black List which also shines a light on deserving people working at the community and grassroots level of the game who often go uncelebrated. The initiative creates an opportunity to reflect on diversity within the industry, while also facilitating discussions on how best to address the under-representation of people from African-Caribbean backgrounds. The list recognises people across seven categories: Media Administration Coaching and Management Commercial Community Players Practitioners Each year special awards - named in honour of the late pioneering manager Keith Alexander - for outstanding contributions to the game and community are given to individuals. The founders, after close consultation with community members, have decided two of the awards will be given to England women footballers Eniola Aluko and Lianne Sanderson for their stands against discrimination and injustice. Burton Albion football club’s Ben Robinson, the first British chairman of an African and Caribbean background, also features on the list this year for the first time. A celebration bringing everyone on the list together to receive awards is planned for November. Leon Mann, co-founder of the Football Black List, said: “I am delighted we have another strong Football Black List. I’m particularly pleased we have been able to highlight and celebrate Ben Robinson - a British chairman of a professional club from a diverse background. “The black community is under-represented across the game - away from playing - so I firmly believe that by highlighting people such as Ben and others, from the boardroom to the grassroots level, we are inspiring a generation to get involved in all areas of the game.” Rodney Hinds, The Voice Newspaper Sport and Features Editor and co-founder of the Football Black List, added: “The Voice is delighted to publish the Football Black List. Even more so this year as the number of new and fresh nominees confirms the strides that members of the community are making within the beautiful game.” You can find the full Football Black List for 2018 below.
