Every year, Kick It Out and the Premier League host an Academy Awareness Weekend, which sees clubs involved in the Premier League Academy structure dedicate fixtures in support of the Equality Inspires initiative, celebrate the game’s inclusive environment and recognise the work of Kick It Out.

Many clubs mark the weekend with special activities celebrating equality, while players and referees from across the Premier League Academy Programme referees wear dual-branded Kick It Out and Premier league t-shirts during the warm-up to help promote the joint initiative.

Spectators throughout the weekend are provided with an information flyer on the organisation and its activities, and are encourage to learn more about the work and values of Kick It Out.

Pitch-side banners promoting the Academy Players App, which allows players to report any discrimination they see, hear or witness confidentially, as well as provide feedback on Equality Inspires workshops, are also displayed at games.

Taking place between 6-8 April, the 2017/18 Academy Awareness Weekend saw more than 70 games played in Premier League Academies across the country in recognition of the importance of equality and inclusion in football.

Troy Townsend, Education Manager at Kick It Out, was delighted with how clubs engaged with the messages of #EqualityInspires throughout the weekend.

"The Academy Awareness Weekend gave Kick It Out and the Premier League the opportunity to display its commitment to developing the future generations of footballers to become more socially aware and ensure they promote inclusion to all.

"Over the weekend I saw players, club staff, parents and guardians all endorsing the messages of equality and inclusion – which fills me with great satisfaction as we move forward with #EqualityInspires workshops in the future."
