Why do we need it? And does it even work? The Rooney Rule has been a controversial development in the debate over opportunities for BAME managers. But should clubs who don’t comply with it face points deductions and fines? That’s the view of Dr Patrick McGurk and Dr Leroi Henry. Here, they tell Kick It Out why they arrived at such a conclusion. Episode 12: Getting the Third Degree - the Laurie Cunningham story As part of our twenty-fifth anniversary, we commissioned a play based on the extraordinary life and legacy of trailblazing footballer Laurie Cunningham. Episode 14: Getting the Third Degree in Conversation - part two Highlights from the second panel discussion on the Kick It Out-commissioned play Getting the Third Degree. Former Tottenham Hotspur and England defender Ledley King joins Kick It Out chair Sanjay Bhandari and ex-Spurs Women defender Renee Hector, now of Charlton Athletic, to discuss the rise of racism in football and what needs to be done. Renee also shares her story of being a victim of racist abuse from a fellow player in the women's game.
