[Community] Swansea schoolchildren to take part in football inclusion festival

Wednesday 25 Mar 2009

Hundreds of primary schoolchildren in Swansea are preparing to take part in a football inclusion festival - the first of its kind in Wales.

More than 300 pupils from 54 schools in the area will unite to raise awareness of football for children from black and minority ethnic (BME) backgrounds and other youngsters who don¹t have the opportunity to play the sport on a regular basis.

Welsh Football Trust Inclusion Officer, Mizan Rahman and the Trust¹s Football Development Officer for Swansea, Rob Thomas are organising the event on Wednesday, April 1.

Rahman, who started his new role in January, said: "The festival will emphasize fun and enjoyment with an overall aim of integrating communities together through football.

"Since starting I have been getting to know different communities and various local organisations to establish new ways of raising the numbers of people playing football among the BME communities in Swansea, Cardiff and Newport. The festival is just one step in achieving this."
