There are a number of organisations that have produced a variety of resources to help organisations plan activities around anti-racism education.
Association for Citizenship Teaching (ACT)
ACT is the subject teacher's association for citizenship education. ACT aims to support all educators and organisations in the development and implementation of citizenship education. It provides members with useful networks, the latest information, and practical ideas through conferences and its termly journal "Teaching Citizenship".
The Citizenship Foundation provides resources for all ages, research, information, training, national mock trial and youth parliament competitions. They cover all aspects of citizenship education, including law-related, moral education, political literacy and critical thinking.
The Institute for Citizenship works directly with teachers and students to develop and pilot effective models of citizenship education and accessible materials for lessons.
CSV provides ideas and contacts for ways of playing an active part in communities through volunteering, training, education and the media. There is a separate new website with a directory of community organisations and guidelines for good practice (www.communitypartners.org.uk/)
CitizED is a project focused on citizenship teacher education. It seeks to develop the professional knowledge of teachers through research and development in professional learning and supports trainee teachers, newly qualified teachers, teacher mentors and others with responsibility for citizenship education.
Here you'll find multimedia resources to support teaching and learning. All resources support the curriculum taught in schools in England from Foundation to KS4. Many are free.
The institute has produced an award winning anti-racism educational CD-Rom called 'Homebeats'. The site contains information on a number of key issues and features an on-line quiz.
The Refugee Council is the largest organisation in the UK working with refugees and asylum seekers. They have produced a range of materials for use in schools.
The Holocaust Educational Trust
The Trust helps promote research and education about the Holocaust and its relevance today. They work in schools, universities and in the community, proving teacher training, an outreach programme for schools, teaching aids and resource material.
The 1990 Trust run the Black Information Link (BLINK) website. This site contains a variety of information about many issues that are faced by ethnic minority communities in Britain.
A couple of other useful sites
This website contains a game for young people about race and the effects of racism. It also contains teacher's notes and a guide on using the resources in the classroom.
