Kick It Out educational work

West Brom visit

West Brom players visit a local school to talk about racism

For a number of years, Kick It Out has been drawing on the appeal of football to help educate young people about the effects of racism on both society and individuals.

Teachers are increasingly looking for innovative ways to help get messages across to young people, and the introduction of Citizenship education into the National Curriculum has opened up a space to assist them in bringing football into the classroom.

The following are just a short sample of activities that Kick It Out is involved with.  However we are always keen to work with new partners and listen to new ideas.  If you would like to discuss a particular project with us, contact us

Kick It Out magazine
One of the main resources that we can provide to schools is the Kick It Out magazine.  The latest edition features interviews with Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o and Chelse ace, Shaun Wright-Phillips.

Secondary Schools Competition
Kick It Out organise an annual schools' competition each year as part of the week of action.

Football, Citizenship and Anti-Racism - A conference for practitioners
Kick It Out has organised two conferences in recent years at Manchester United FC to provide teachers and other professionals working in education with ideas and examples of good practice.

Work with prisons and other educational establishments
An increasing amount of educational activities are taking place with prisons, youth offending institutes, pupil referral units and youth clubs. Please contact us for further information or if you would like us to come and visit your organisation.

Respect: A Playing for Success resource
Kick It Out worked closely with the DfES in the production the anti-racism resource, Respect: Together We Can Beat Racism. The material is aimed at providing Playing for Success Centre Managers with materials with which to approach the subject of racism and to help celebrate diversity. Please click here for further information and to download a copy of the resource.

Working with the NUT
The NUT has provided financial support to Kick It Out for a number of years.  Recent projects we are supporting them with include 'The Other Side of Silence' , a one day seminar to help teachers, who work within mainly white schools develop practical and sustainable strategies for valuing cultural diversity and challenging racism.
