Mondiali 2008

Mondiali Antirazzisti

Mondiali Antirazzisti

Amateur teams, particularly those from ethnic minorities, are being encouraged to join more than six thousand footballers from all corners of Europe in Italy for one of the world's largest football festivals in July.

Anti-racism World Cup
The Mondiali Antirazzisti, translating as 'Anti- racism World Cup', attracts hundreds of teams to a 5 a- side footballing carnival where fans, anti-racism campaigners, youth groups, students and ex-professionals come together in a symbolic stand against racism and discrimination.

The tournament operates with a group system in the early stages, then a knock-out stage involving the best 64 teams will take place.

Not all of the pitches are used throughout the tournament therefore some will be available for friendly matches for teams not making it passed the group stage.

After the success of last years tournament, the semi-finals and final will not be played, but decided on penalties.

9 - 13 July
The multicultural festival will take place between the 9 - 13 July in the northern Italian town of Montecchio, organised by Italian fan group Progetto Ultra, a leading member of the Football Against Racism in Europe network.

The diversity of the event grows each year with teams of migrants from Ghana, Turkey, Nigeria, Pakistan and Palestine amongst those taking part.

Other entertainment at the Mondiali includes films, documentaries and performances from bands and DJ's.
There is also a highly popular cricket and basketball tournament that runs alongside the football.

Get involved!
The event makes for an inexpensive weekend with cheap flights and camping facilities, restaurants and bars on hand in the sunny Italian countryside.

So get practising your penalties and join the Mondiali this summer.

Anyone interested in registering should do so by visiting www.mondialiantirazzisti.org from Saturday 19th April onwards.
