Permi Jhooti - action

Permi tackles opponent Rachel Yankey

Permi Jhooti became the first Asian to play professional football in the modern era when she signed for Fulham Ladies in 2000.

Kick It Out spoke to the midfielder to find out her views of women's football.

Favourite player
Since his conduct after the Argentina game and his performance as England Captain, definitely David Beckham.

Most admired team-mate
Katy Chapman, the ultimate professional. It was an honour to play alongside her and, when she is the most famous woman in football, I shall let everyone know I was once her team mate! Also the Norwegian trio at Fulham, to play with such exceptional players is truly a privilege that I shall never forget.

Which mens team do you support?
Always the team I play for, so currently Chelsea as well as my home town, Preston, although after being at Fulham full time they shall always have a special place in my heart.

Ambition for the future
Quite simply to continue to be happy and do the best that I can. An occasional goal or two would also be a bonus although the first wish is slightly more realistic.

What's your message to girls who want to take up the game?
Just do it. Sounds simple but it really is the only advice. Don't fret about how or why, just do it.

How long until we see a fully professional Women's league?
We have been promised this in 2 years. Hopefully the FA plans will come good - I have heard rumours for at least 10 years. Fulham took a very brave step and if this does happen I think they should be recognised for the role they have played.

Womens football - Different sport or just played by a different gender?
I always think it is the same sport but a different game. The focus is on just plain simple football, not physical strength. People should stop comparing it to the men's game and just go and watch it. We used to hear the same complaints about tennis. Now people know that it's irrelevant whether or not women can compete against men so how about the same attitude in football?

Ever broken FA rules and played in a mixed team?
Absolutely. Love playing football with men. Improves my game no end.
