Members of the community come together to discuss the issues
The National Asians in Football Forum are a group of individuals who are working with Asian communities and football or sports development across the UK.
The group was formed with the objective of addressing the glaring under representation of the Asian community as players, fans and administrators in the game.
Following a number of meetings Jas Bains, former Chair of the National Asians in Football Forum, published the 'Asians Can Play Football' report, which followed his initial report in 1996 ironically entitled, 'Asians Can't Play Football'.
The aim of the document was;
- to register the determination of the group to chart a new course to increase opportunities for Asians in British Football
- to report on progress made in developing football within community and sports projects around the UK
- to comment on some of the barriers that still restrict progress.
The report was launched at Highbury on the 22nd September 2005 and called on the game to ensure that increased efforts are made to guarantee that Asians are no longer excluded from the game and that the overall problem of lack of representation in football is addressed throughout the sport.
The group has since brought the footballing family together for the 'Future for Aisans in British Football' conference which addressed the issues facing the Asian footballing community and highlighted the boundaries that exist.
The group have been given organisational support by Kick It Out and the Foxes Against Racism partnership in Leicester.
The current Chair of the National Asians in Football Forum is Butch Fazal.
